Question
QUESTION: Hello, Recently my one year old kitty Barnabas has gotten yet another UTI!! The vet suggests changing his dry mix (eaten periodically during the daytime) to a prescription food C/D with low ash. However, I would like to keep his dry mix to a food that low ash but more reasonable in price, any suggestions?
Also, Barnabas eats moist(canned) for breakfast and dinner, is there ash content in moist foods?

ANSWER: Hi Lee, Sorry about the Chronic urinary infections in your cat boy.
Yes, the  special cat foods are expensive.  There is Not much on the market at all except for the Hill's RX and Royal Canine Special Diets.  ( I think there may be a few others thru the vet)

As for wet food, I have some great home-cooking recipes for your cat boy.
All great for cats with chronic UTIs and kidney stones.
More cats pass away from Kidney failure, every years, related to poor cat food quality.
Make sure he gets lots of water.... or add water to the Wet food.

Let me know if you want the recipes and supplements?

QUESTION: Thank You for such a knowledgeable response. Yes, I would appreciate the recipes for my boy, Barnabas. I didn't mention in the first question that he is a very finicky eater, since the first question, I have tried to feed him the C/D dry food, he wont come near it. If I mix the dry C/D with his moist, he wont eat the moist. While waiting for the initial answer I began feeding him 9Lives Urinary Tract Dry food, which he likes alot, Is this dry food not good for him? He really enjoys munching on dry periodically during the day. Also, is the issue of ash content found in wet food as well as dry?

I am here it help if you need me...

9Lives Urinary tract food for cats is an average food.  I would only use it as a snack food for your cat and not as his complete diet.  Ash is just one of the factors for the formulation of special diets for Chronic UTIs...  Also, chronic Urinary problems lead to kideny stones and possible kidney failure.
