kitten may be eating too much

I recently adopted two kittens, 1 male, 1 female. They are now about 5-6 months old. The problem I am having is that the male seems to eat all the time, and I am worried that he is eating both kittens' food (all of his, plus part of hers). His belly is starting to protrude a little. I took them to the vet shortly after I got them (were sneezing, turned out to be a cold)- the weight on 1/20/09 was 5#4oz for the male, 5#12oz for the female. I just took them back this past week (2/6/09)- the male has double teeth (his adult canines didn't push the kitten canines out) - and he now weighs 6#5oz, while the female was 6#4oz.

He just seems to want to eat all the time and makes purring noises while he eats, where the female eats, "buries" the food, then goes back later for more. He seems to be at the food bowl much more often than she is, and he eats more quickly. I know their weight is about right for their age, I am just concerned because his belly is starting to bulge at the sides. I feed them dry only, as they don't like wet food. They get a combination of Eagle Pack and Avoderm, both are kitten formulae. They do drink plenty of water - they have a fountain they drink from, as they like the running water. I have to refill it every day, so I know they are drinking.

NuVET vitamins for cat Hi Jen, sounds like you are doing a great job with the water fountain and the food brands.
The only thing I can say is that the Wet food is important if they don't like water... NOW, if they love the water fountain then the dry food is ok.

You may want to stop free feeding and feed on a schedule.  Also, move them to different places for feeding / NOT near each other.
YOU will need to monitor him better.... ( I know it is hard to do)

Next, you may want them to take the NuVET Supplement/  1/2 per day would be great for digestion and skin/coat health.
