Question
QUESTION: My 3 yr old male cat has been diagnosed with a bladder blockage and I'm told that he will have to be on a special diet for the rest of his life.  I have three other, female cats, and have been told that since they are free fed they will all have to be on a special dry food diet so that the male cat doesn't get any of the current dry food that I'm feeding them.  Are there any brands of cat food that can be purchased in the pet stores so I don't have to purchase the expensive special diet foods from my vet?

ANSWER:    cat food recipes for kidney failure ; cat food reviews;
Hi Lynette, I would be glad to help you on home-cooking for your cats.  The only other choice besided the Hill's RX diets is home-cooking.  I have a number of recipes for you the are excellent for cats with kindey problems.  The recipe will be fine for all the cats to eat.....
Here we go!

Diet for the Cat with Kidney Problems

4 parts carbohydrate:
Pureed barley flakes and /or baby food creamed corn

2 parts protein:
Lightly broiled chicken or beef  ( ground or cut up very small )
*you can also use baby food chicken jars

1 part vegetable: Chopped of finely grated raw vegetable or vegetable
juice-carrots, zucchini, and alfalfa sprouts are best.
**( CATS don't have to have veggies if they don't like them)

1 teaspoon per cat of NuVET PLUS feline powder ( JUST 1 x per day for the vitamin)

2 teaspoons soft butter

MIX the meat, carbs, and veggies in with the butter .... YUM YUM and very safe for cats with Kidney failure - Urinary infections .... and for healthy cats ,too...
MUST use the vitamin supplement / NuVET feline on each cat 1 x per day.

YOU can hide the NuVET powder in some Cottage cheese or in the home-made cat food.
Start them all out on 1/2 teaspoon per day for the first 3 days and then go to the full 1 teaspoon dosage of NuVET feline poweder...
You can't balance the meal without the vitamin....

YOU can cook up your meats and freeze - take out what you need daily...
YOU can also pre-cook and grind the veggies / (if you decide to do them)

YOUR cats should be offered 1/2 to 1/3 cup of food 2 x per day....

YOU can also serve some Grain free Innova CAT food ( EVO) as a snack for them all.
JUST offer 5-8 bites of the Innova EVO as a little afternoon treat.
YOU want to look for a grain-free cat food - EVO or Wellness CORE are excellent.

QUESTION: Now he seems to be peeing but not in the litter box.  He is peeing all over.  He is still on the S/D prescription diet canned food and still on his antibiotics and spasm meds. Help what can I do?

Answer
Cat with kidney problems; UTI feline ; cat food recipes for kidney failure :
ARE you needing any help with the home-cooking?

How about placing 3 litter boxes around the house?  Also, I would give the NuVET Plus supplement and the home-cooked food.  Home-cooking is much better.  The recipes I sent you will be much better than the Hill's food.
Give it a try and see
