Question
Will you please suggest a dry kitten food that can be purchased at a regular grocery store, or say walmart?  I know cooking is best, but we don't even cook for our family and I know we will not cook for the kittn.

Answer
HI Joe,

Yes, I am a big believer in a raw diet.  This does not involve any cooking and honestly is just as easy to do as dry food.  Cooking takes all the good stuff out of the food and makes bones dangerous for your cat so should be avoided.  Raw bones are safe as they are spongy and cats digestive tracks are built to handle them.  A raw meal for your cat can consist of a couple of chicken wings and a few chicken hearts.  Even more convenient is a powder called 'TC instincts' this powder is added to regular ground turkey or chicken purchased from the grocery store and when mixed together creates a complete meal.  You can mix up big batches once in a while and freeze in meal sized portions so they are ready to grab when you need them.  You can have a look at www.catnutrition.org for recipe's but these require a bit more time.

Alternately, there are some high quality commercial foods but these can not be purchased at the grocery store or wal mart.  In my personal opinion the foods sold there are the bottom of the barel and not good for your cat at all.  You will need to go to the pet store to get decent quality food.  Some of the one's I recommend are Evo(As close to raw as you can get in a dry food), Wysong (A canned food that has nothing but pure meat, you would only need to add bone meal.  They also have complete meals in dry and canned), or Solid Gold.  All of these options are a bit more expensive but guaranteed to save you money in the long run on vet bills.

Good luck,

Natoma
