Any Response - re: diarrhea ? 4/23/09?

Question
QUESTION: Hi
I saw your post on 'chronic diarrhea' to the lady in April here....just scanning the internet for info as I work for a siamese rescue here in CA and have a 6 yr old cat with chronic diarrhea that I have treated medically for all parasites, stool o/p, pumpkin added, higher fiber to no change.  I just ordered the Sojo's catfood (she has been on Trader joe's wet and iams hairball dry her whole life)-also ordered the supplement you suggested from Nuvet Labs.  I was wondering if you had ever heard back from the lady with the original post as to her results implementing your suggestions.  She had rescued this abandoned cat with these issues.
Thanks...looking forward to hearing from you and getting these products started for my Claire here.  Otherwise I think she won't ever have a chance at getting adopted with this problem.  It is the reason she was returned to our rescue after being adopted from us 6 yrs ago! we are one of the few rescues that take our animals back...anyway I fostered the whole litter back then too.
All the best,
Stephanie

ANSWER: Hi Stephanie,  Yes, it is Irritable Bowel disease as far as I can remember.  I get cats and dogs with this diagnosis very often.  The vet does all the "A-Z" looking for parasites and then gives the DX: of IBS.

The SoJo home-cooking foods and NuVET does wonders for this problem.

Start this cat kid out on 1/2 the NuVET dosage per day - Don't go to the full dosage right away.

Work slowly with the SoJo's cat food mix.  Try to do more meat and less of the SoJo's mix for about 3 weeks.  Then, slowly increase the SoJo's mix to the full recommended amount per day.
As for the NuVET - also, start out with 1/2 the regular amount and work-up to the full amount recommended for this size cat.

QUESTION: Hi Marie,
thanks for your rapid response and help.
Do you recommended ground muscle meat only- chicken/ turkey or whole chicken/turkey parts ground with bones and all?
and raw right no cooking at all?  I've done raw years many years ago with dogs and cats.  Not sure what is best as this is my first case of such a problem in the triple digits of cat adoptions that I've done over the years.
All the best,
Stephanie

Answer
Hi - I don't feed raw at all.
How about turkey, lamb, and buffalo....
( chicken and regular hamburger as a last choice)
No liver or organs.
Please lightly cook all the meats.
No bones.... You can use a little bone meal if you wish ( 1/4 teaspoon per day.

Hope this helps.
