Question
Hello,
I am looking to get a pug puppy and love the runt of the litter.  I have been hearing so much about runts being unhealthy.  What is the truth in this?

Thank you!

Answer
Just because an animal is born smaller does not mean there will be more problems.  You should do your research and find a good breeder.  Make sure to visit the kennel and see both parents if possible.  Ask about history of the parents and get references of those who have purchased dogs from them...call them and find out if their dogs are healthy.  Doing your research will pay off in the long-run as a puppy from a reputable breeder should be healthier and have a health-guarantee.  Good breeders breed for the love of the dog and to better the breed, not just to make money!  Do not get a puppy from the mall or petstore as they are usually from puppy mills!
