Persistent diarrhea

Question
Hi - I'm hoping you can help.  I have a 14 wk old american cocker spaniel male that has had diarrhea since I got him at 10 wks.  The vet cant seem to find anything wrong with him.  I've tried different foods and I've added white rice to his food but nothing works.  I'm concerned b/c he isnt gaining any weight and he's very thin.  Have you ever heard of this before?  Do you have any suggestions?

Answer
He may have a malabsorptive disorder or food allergy.  However, to be on the safe side I would recommend a course of deworming with PANACUR once daily for 5 days in case underlying parasites are contributing since he is a pup.

Then start by feeding boiled chicken and rice ONLY...no regular dog food or treats or snacks.  Mix a tablespoon of plain yogurt with live active cultures in each meal along with PROZYME digestive enzymes.  If his stool becomes normal on this mix, then SLOWLY reintroduce to NATURAL dog food such as Verus or Flint River Ranch Fish & Potato, Natures Recipe Venison & Rice...something that is free of dyes & preservatives, no meat by-products, no corn, no soy...

If no improvement, then I would recommend a stool culture be done as well as Giardia check to the lab, check TLI for pancreatic problems as well as B12/folate for bacterial overgrowth.
