cat lethargic, wont eat or drink

Question
For 3 days, my 8 yr old cat hasn't eaten and drinks very little. She is usually very fiesty but will let me get her all wet with water in an attempt to get her to drink. She vomited up some chicken I cut up for her an hour after she ate. She has lost a couple of pounds during these few days. What would be the best solution on a limited income?

Answer
Lisa, is your cat long haired?  Has she ever had a hairball problem?  It sounds like she may have an intestinal blockage.  Was her last stool hard or dry?  If they have stopped eating and have begun to vomit, it sounds like whatever she has eaten in the near past might not be able to move on through her body.  If this is the case, she will stop eating and begin throwing up.  A cat cannot go on like this for very long.  They become dehydrated quickly.  She needs fluids and should have her abdomen palpated to determine if there is any unusual lumps, bumps, or bulges.  If you have no one to do this for you, it would be worth the Vet. exam fee to find out what the problem is.  Once identified, they might be able to give you some options to help her out without costing you alot.  This could be very serious or it could just be a matter of unblocking her.
