Feline Urinary Tract Infections

Question
My female cat is showing signs of a possible urinary tract infection. She doesn't make noise as if in pain when she urinates, but only a little bit of urine is voided with a lot of effort. Since last night when my husband and I noticed this problem and wiped her bottom, the area around her genitalia and anus is always wet and has a strong odor. It is Sunday and I will contact an after-hours veterinarian. I just have one question for you until we can get her seen: Is there anything over the counter available or anything I can do?

Thank you for your time.

Answer
Just keep  her clean for now. NEVER use an OTC pain medication on a cat ever. Thats the fastest way to poison them.

Your cat can have the following:
1.bladder stones
2.acending or decending uti
3.urinary crystal
4.sterile cystitis (stress related uti)

Make sure you demand pain medication for you cat! UTI's are miserable and many vets overlook that.
