Question
We have chocolate lab age 12. She has a medical condition that is hard to diagnose. She is alert two to four days in a row then out of the blue she becomes restless and is in pain. Her left leg will cramp up causing her to limp. After 12 to 16 hours she returns to normal. Her medications include Dersmaxx and Torbutrol which cannot be given at the same time. Can you put me in touch with a pet owner or breeder who has knowledge of this type condition. Please advise.

Answer
Was she tested for Lyme Disease?  If not, I would highly recommend it.  The Deramaxx is a ONCE a day anti-inflammatory and the Torbutrol is a very mild form of morphine...they could be given together and the Torbutrol can be given evey 4 hours.  It sounds like she should have a muscle relaxant such as Diazepam or Methocarbamal. In addition, at 12 yrs old I am sure she has some degree of arthritis, therefore, I would recommend Glucosamine and MSM supplement as well as B complex vitamins and Ester C.  Also, make sure you are feeding her an all-natural diet which will greatly contribute to her overall health.
