Cats and Hair Ball

Question
Can you recommend a really good over the counter hair ball medicine for cats? Or is there an especially good one without a prescription at the veterinarian's office?
Thanks
Rick

Answer
Hello!

I can not tell you an exact brand name, since I live outside of the United States at the moment (considering this is where you live of course? ) Most of the hairball medicines work just fine, if you want to use a medicine rather than the ones in food or treats. The hard thing about using the medicine type is that after the hairballs are gone, and the cat stops vomiting, the owners forget about giving the medicine at regular intervals, and there come the hairballs again. So in my opinion, unless you have a serious hairball problem, it is easier to use it as food, so that it is like you are using the medicine all the time regularly. What I mean by that is dry food with special hairball formulas, like Purina special care hairball formula for example. Many other brands like Hill's, Royal Canine, etc. have hairball formulas too.
