Question
My dog is 11 months old, last week she had bloody stool, diahrea, she wouldnt eat and was vomiting, so I took her to the vet. They gave her x-rays and a ultrasound... they say she has gastroenteritis and they gave me "metronidazole" it has now been 7 days and she has not gotten any better. She still has all the same symptoms, except now theres also a clear mucus in her stool. I dont know how to get this to stop, and how to get her eating again. Her stomach is also making a lot of gurgly sounds now. Please help!

Answer
I am guessing that this dog was tested for parvo also? She certainly could have that but if she has stopped vomiting then most likely not.

Gastritis is hard to stop even with drugs and Metronidazole alone won't do it. Did he also give you some prednisone or give her an injection?
The clear mucous is from the intestines since there is nothing else in there to come out. She could also be having a hard time digesting anything right now which will cause a mucousy stool.

You might want to boil up some rice with chicken broth and when it cools off give her a little bit of that. You can mix baby food with it but what you should do is get some cans of A/D from the vet and start syringe feeding her to kick start her appetite.

If a dog isn't well in three days or so while on antibitoics, etc., another call to the vets is in order. I would call them tomorrow and then get some A/D for her. Let them know you are not seeing any improvement in 7 days.
I hope she recovers well and soon. Please let me know how she does.
