Dogs hind leg weak semi paralysed

Question
Our dog - a mixed shepherd/lab is almost 14yrs. Her right hind leg is almost useless.  We have tried some medications based on the diagnosis of 'possible arthritis, and age related problems'. (Vitamin B supplement - neurobion forte, megaflex, glucosamine, prednisone - all to little effect.)  I just got a brace, and that makes the leg collapse completely.  I will try it again, but would like to know if there are any other suggestions.  The only other problem she has is excessive panting - and I just got the answer for that on this site.

Answer
Ameeta -

Have you talked with her doctor regarding her arthritis?  A brace is not often used to facilitate walking in a dog - did an orthopedic specialist fit her for the brace?

The panting is most likely due to pain and discomfort, but it can be  from other things, too.  She may have heart problems or respiratory problems.

It is difficult for me to make suggestions without having first evaluated the dog.  If you are working with a veterinarian, continue to do so.  If you are not presently working with a vet, please have radiographs done to determine the extent of the injury or degeneration to the leg or hip joint.
