liver enzymes

Question
I've had all the test and I mean all the test ran and Rocket doesn't have cancer.  He was misdiagnosed and give predinose, he developed cushings disease in 3 days.  After several days of tests no cancer and iv fluids to relieve the symptoms he was better.  Later his liver enzymes were very high 600 & 800 I forgot which was which and he lost his vision.  Now the vet has done all she can do.  I'm trying homeopatic meds and milk thistle has worked with the lymp nodes swelling.  But even though his eyes look better (healthy eyes btw had those checked too no reason for vision loss there).  By better I mean his pupil is constricted and dilating properly.  The vision isn't coming back completely yet we have been taking 140 mg/d for 2 weeks this monday (11/23/09).  Liver function okay, urinalysis okay, kidneys okay, ultrasound normal... Rocket is a neutered 12 yr ACD weight 50lbs.  My question is should we continue the milk thistle or is there a better homeopatic therapy?  Also he is off all meds except the milk thistle and he eats Hills d/d duck & potato.

Answer
Pam -

I takes a lot longer than three days for a dog to develop Cushings.  He may have developed symptoms of the disease Cushings - but it usually takes a while for a dog to develop Cushings.

Because you do not have an actual diagnosis of your dog's condition, I cannot fully understand what is wrong with your dog.  I gather his liver enzymes are elevated - but I do not understand why the vision is gone.  You are giving him 140 mg/d of something - is that for his eyesight?

Milk thistle can be very effective in keeping the liver healthy. Hills has a liver diet - try feeding your dog the liver diet prescription diet.
