eye problem of some sort

Question
Hi. Maybe you can give me some idea about this
...but I'm sure I need to make an appointment
with the closest vet soon. In the last 2 months,
our 8-year old lab-retriever started bleeding
from his left eye. Not just normal clear eye
fluid...real red blood that got on his fur
around the eye some. --Not drippy, all-over the floor
blood...but just enough to be noticable. He did seem to have "bloodshot" white in his left eye for the last
6 months or so. I'll ask the vet for sure, but have
you ever heard of this before?
Thanks in advance --Max

Answer
Hello Max -

I highly recommend you take your pet to your veterinaran as soon as possible. There are a variety of eye disorders that could be prominent in your pet.

I am not an opthamologist but it sounds likes your pet could either have a condition called "Cherry Eye", endothelial dystrophy or an eyelash abnormality. Without physically seeing your pet I cannot give you an accurate diagnosis. Given the age of your pet he may be suffering from Glaucoma. If you see cloudiness or spots around the center eye area, he may have a cataract induced by glaucoma. There are a lot of eye disorders that effect labradors and your veterinarian may send him to a pet opthamologist.

The best to do right now is to wash the eye with a saline solution and try to keep debris out of it. Your veterinarian will run an array of tests to be sure of your pets condition. There are quite a few natural remedies that can be given to pets with eye disorders. Please follow up with me and let me know the outcome, I will be happy to help heal and assist your pet naturally.

I am sorry I cannot be of more help. I hope what I have informed you of has helped you. I have heard of the symptoms you described and they can lead to serious problems.
