Question
I have a 7 yr old dog-been on Deramaxx for 3 yrs for osteoarthritis. She does get the labs done which so far are normal. she takes chondroitin and glucosamine daily. Is there something besides deramaxx that she can take? The vet said there was not. But I worry about the side effects (don't want to find out that it has affected her too late) and I will be honest, the expense monthly is too much. I have heard about fish oil and evening primrose oil

Answer
Hi Pat, Yes, your 7 year old is still young and you should be concerned about long term effects on the liver with Deramaxx.
I would sure try other options and ask your vet to slowly lower the dosage of Deramaxx, if possible.  Tell your vet that your goal is to get your dog off the Deramaxx or to use the smallest dosage possible.

OK, here are my suggestions and we have had some great luck...
Yes, continue with the chondroitian and glucosamine each day.
Good JOB!
Next, Please get your baby onto an Omega 3 - you can get some Nature's Sunshine Products here:

I would give 1-2 per day / Depends on your dog's weight.

Also, most of my clients take a NuVET wafer per day -  Most dogs just need 1 per day / some need 2 per day-
39.90 for the 60 count bottle of NuVET wafer Treats
55.00 for the 90 count  "  "   "   "
