Question
I would like to take my small dog from US to Austria and after 6 weeks back to US.Can you tell me the requirements for re-entry into the US? Can I use the same veterinary certificate (No 998)that was issued in the US?
Do I need pet passport?
Thank you.

Answer
For entry into Austria:  microchip  rabies vac at least 30 days old and less than 1 yr.
APHIS 7001 international health cert issued within 10 days of travel to europe, and endorsed by
usda.  Also, the EU form 998 English-German which records the microchip and rabies info. This
cert must also be endorsed by usda.  The EU 998 is NOT, repeat, NOT, a health cert.  It is only
for entry into EU.  Has NO value for re-entry into USA.  You would need to get a new health
cert issued in Austria within 10 days of your return to USA
Pet Passport would not be necessary.  If, you think you might again take this dog to EU, then you
would be wise in getting a pet passport while in Europe, otherwise forget it
You would also need your rabies vac cert for re-entry into USA
