Question
I am moving about 4 states away from me towards the West Coast.
I am wondering if travel would be best for my two dogs or flighting them out.?
HOw do I arrange a flight if so.?
What do I need to flight them out?
What is best airlines to use?
I am moving from N.J. to Col. state.
I feel flying them is quicker, less stressful?
Is that Right?
Thank You.

Answer
There are no short answers.  Which airline is very important.  Unfortunately, the FAA has only recently required airlines to keep records on how pets they fly fair.  Call the airlines you might use, and talk to them.  Don't take what they say too seriously.  Try to find ones that will accept crated dogs in the cabin, or at least swear in a conditioned hold.  The bigger the dog, the harder it will be.  The airlines will will tell you what they require and how to do it.

If the dogs are used to being crated, that argues in favor of flying.  On the other hand, if you have never crated them, and they ride in the car well, consider the car.  It is best to keep them on leash on the car.  That way, no sudden escapes in a parking lot.  Do not leave them in the car.  Plan on surviving on fast food drive throughs, or at least take out if there are 2 in the car.  Choose pet friendly motels, or camp if that is your style.  That also solves meals.  NJ to Colo will mean at least 2 long days in the car, and maybe 3 or 4.

Make sure the dogs are up to date on shots, and you have their health records with you.  Texas, and maybe other states requires you to have the rabies certificate with you.
