Question
my flower pot when i got up this morning had a bald spot were there use to be part of it. what could cause this to happen?

Answer
Hi Pete,

I am also a big fan of the flower pot coral (Goniopora corals).

It's an extremely delicate coral that requires expert care and perfect water conditions, including the proper trace elements. Below includes a few possible scenarios, as to why your coral is responding the way it is.

Poor water quality. High nitrates, and phosphate levels.
Insufficient lighting, or too much bright intense light.
Neighboring corals can sting, ample space should be provided between itself and other neighboring corals.
Clownfish, will often play in its polyps if no anemone can be found in the reef aquarium. This may actually be detrimental to the coral.
Any damage to the meaty section of the True Red Flower Pot Coral almost always means a lost specimen.
Lack of proper nutrition. It should be fed phytoplankton, zooplankton, or brine shrimp daily.

Sincerely,
David
