Question
Hello,

I have a question about lighting,i have a 125 gallon tank
with two 96 watt power compacts and 440 watt vho, my
question is the vho bulbs i have 2 acintic and 2 50/50
bulbs right now,do you think this ia a good bulb choice for
coral growth or would true white bulbs be better than
50/50. One more question do you think this is enough light
for sps? the tank is 24 inches deep.

Thanks,
Bruce

Answer
Hi Bruce

Theoretically, plain white bulbs are far healthier for corals than 50/50.  However, they give your tank a very unsightly 'yellow' look.  I use a mixtures of blue, pink and white lighting on my tank.  This combination assists in bringing out the colour of the corals.

With regards to SPS corals, you should be able to keep most species of SPS with that lighting, provided that your water parameters are good.

However, for optimum growth and health, I would suggest T5HO or metal halide lighting.

Kind Regards,

Michael
