silvertip sharks and pictus catfish

our tank was really dirty and we had to completly dump all the water and change shortly after our catfish  died could you tell me why

If I could get more info from you about your tank and your fish hopefully we can figure it out;

What size tank is it?
What size were the fish? How many fish were there?
What kind of filter system?
How often is the filter cleaned?
Does it have a heater? What is the water temperature usually?
How long was the tank set up?
How often do you change water and vacuum the gravel?
How much water at a time was replaced?
How much food and what kind did you feed them?
Did the fish have any symptoms of illness?
Did they have a good appetite?
