Gold fish problem

Question
Hi Chris,

Im not sure whether you can help me but I'm having some problems with one of my goldfish. He has blood streaks on his tail, and I have maintained high quality water, and have been treated him with Mela Fix. I have tested the nitrate and Ph levels of the water and they are fine.
The steaks improved for a few days (5), but now have come back. Furthermore, he keeps hitting the sides of the wall in the tank. It's like his gone crazy or something. My other goldfish remains very healthy, no signs of any problems.

Do you have any idea what is wrong with him and how I can treat him?

Thank you for your time.

Regards,

Olivia.

Answer
Hi Olivia;

I hope I have gotten back to you in time.....

He may have an internal infection. Blood streaks indicate a blood infection called "septicemia". This means the infection has spread. Use an antibiotic like "Maracyn 2" by Mardel or "Kanacyn" by Aquatronics. They both absorb into the fish to get where the infection is. Other medications only treat the outside.

Followups welcome
