Question
Hi there, I have a 4 foot aquarium tank in my room which is not in direct sunlight but is in a position that it does get a decent hour or 2 during the day of sunlight which in turn means that the tank overgrows with thick algae weekly. Due to the weight and exceptional ecosystem (running with no problems regardless of the algae issue for 3 years) I can't and do not want to disturb my fish by moving the tank. My only thought was finding an anti - UV curtain if there is even such an invention and if you think this may help, I have regular curtains that are always drawn in my room but the problem persists, anti - algae formulas are just scams as I have found out. Any opinion and help would be much appreciated. I have 4 almost 4 year old red bellied piranhas in the tank that I have had since they were practically hatched. Cheers Kris

Answer
HI Kris

I don't know of any UV curtains. They make a UV sterilizer for your tank, but they are used to clear up an algae bloom in the water (green cloudy water)

To minimize algae growth in the tank, you'll need to block the hour or two of sunlight your tank gets during the day by keeping the curtains closed during that time of day, or by placing something in front of the tank to keep it from getting sunlight. If the curtains are closed and sunlight still gets to the tank, try a heavier curtain. Keep your tank lights on no more than 10-12 hours a day.

I agree with you on the algae tablets and formulas, most do not work.

Hope this helps, good luck!
