Molly fry and overcrowding

Question
My mother bought my son a Spongebob tank for Easter, 2.8g.  We got 2 mollies and 3 tiny neon tetras, reco'd by the store.  My black molly had about 5-6 fry last night (i had no idea she was prego). They stay hidden all the time. I was advised by a Petsmart emp. today that my tank is already too full w/the 5 fish, and the fry will only make it worse. Should I leave the fry alone or try to scoop them out to a bowl w/treated water and feed? Are the fish in there living a bad existence already?? They are acting and eating well, but apparently that means little as nitrate levels can get bad v. quickly in a small tank.  HELP!  what should my next steps be?? My hubby says "they're just fish", and the Petsmart guy was a bit snobby saying he would never buy something like a Spongebob tank at that size. We're first time owners, so any reasonable advice we can follow is appreciated.

Answer
Hello.
You should get another tank if you can, or at least a breeding trap. The molly will try to eat the young so do it soon. Once they are older, you can try to sell them at some pet stores, or you can get another tank, preferably a 20 gallon and keep them in there.
  Hope this helps! :)
