Question
my freshwater plant is dieing and i dont no y. can you help me? i have 5 guppys 6 neon tetras, 2 small goldfish, 1 bottomfeeder, all in a 10 gallon glass tank. i have bubbles and in curently treating one of my female guppys for fin & tail rot. i have been adding the teatment for about 3 days now (i followed directions)... the PH in the water was EXtremly low. like at 5.8 which could be the problem with the guppys health. i added PH stuff to the water and the PH went up to the level i wanted it (7.2). the PH stuff made the water all fog-y. i dont kn0w what the pr0lem is with the plant, but the fish is looking alot better :). but the plant started to die. it wasnt dieing B4 i added all the stuff so i dont no. it could B dieing because the water is fog-y or b/c i made the PH go up really fast... so if u could help me that would be nice.

Answer
Hi Angie

You're very smart for 12.

You really shouldn't add pH buffers to your tank. pH is really most important when breeding. That is a rather low pH, but the fish you have should be fine. You might test your tap water to see if there is something in the tank that is lowering the pH.

Your plant is most likely dying from the fish medication. Not sure what you used, but most fish medications will kill live plants. It's always better to medicate fish in a separate tank with a bare bottom. Treating an entire aquarium can affect the biological bed and result in high ammonia and nitrite levels.

Hope this helps, good luck!
