Question
QUESTION: I have 2 female guppies, 1 male guppy, 3 female mollies, 1 female platy, 1 male platy, and 2 male mollies in a 50 gallon tank. I would like to know where the gravid spot is. My guppies both have dark spots at the end of their stomachs, but the spot looks like it is inside of them. My platy is extremely fat. Also, how do you sex these fish? Thank you for reading my question.

ANSWER: Hello Mary,

Well first off To sex them, look at the bottom back single fin under the rear of the belly. In males it's pointed. In females it's fanned out. Immature males all look like females so watch as the babies grow up. A baby male can take 4 months or more to show his gender.

And you have to separate the mom from the babies as soon as possible because the mom well actually eat her babies.

You most likely cant see it yet because it is not developed yet. If you have any more questions please contact me in a follow up message!

Thanks,
Michael M

QUESTION: When should I put my pregnant fish in a breeding tank? I know I have to immediately move her after birthing, but I'm not sure when to put her in. Also, what should I feed the fry? Do I have to grow a microworm culture for them? Thank You for your time.

Answer
hello again,

And it can stay in the breeding tank for quite a while so about a month after it starts to get round. and all you do for food is get a sandwitch bag and fill it with flake food and smash it up really good and then give them that. Also you do want to move her right after birth or she well eat the babies!
