Question
Bought a pair of oscars from  a friend lst fall. They are 5 yrs. old in 80 gal tank.Got all set up and they promptly layed eggs, plocostomus ate them. Layed again and they went all hairy with fungus. Today is the fourth time.Temp is 74 I have a floating themometer. I thought this would be cool enough to stop them from spawning.Their behavior seems different this time. I assume They are male-female as eggs only ever come out of one fish(same) We never see anything from the other but both appear to drag their vents over the laying surface. So, 1. can I breed them to death? 2 Can I tell if the male is doing his job? 3. is there anything I can do for the fungus or is this the result of unfertilized eggs. it would be very interesting to get some little ones

Answer
Hi Mike... temp should be about 78-82 degrees and the tank needs to be clean.... especially the gravel...... they will breed as often as they feel like it... so no harm there. There is really nothing more you can do but to provide a good clean environment.... keep me posted... dave
