Question
hi there
i ve got a tank with three white ballon mollys (2female 1 male) and two black ballon mollys both male. the male whites molly is bullying the other mollys to the point that i think he may seriously stress them out. he isnt biteing their fins but pushing st them into the side of the tank continuously.....what do i do??

Answer
Hey Danni,
This problem is being caused by the fishs' sexes. You should never have more males than females, becuase the males fight over the females. You should have at least one female for each male you have, but two per male is even better.
your white male's aggression should lessen if you buy a few more females. Depending on you tank size, buy 2-4 females. You also don't need to get only balloon mollies, any female molly will work (ex: dalmation, sailfin, creamscicle, lyretail, etc) and any color variation. All mollies can breed with each other, the type doesn't matter. So your black males and white females might be breeding as well.
This should help. Mollies aren't usually very aggressive, especially balloon mollies, but sometimes you do get the occassional territorial male.

If he isn't doing this to the males but to the females, he might be trying to breed when they don't want to. Males will terrorize females who don't want to breed.

If he is doing it to all of the mollies, then he is probably just territorial and it is just his personality.

Good luck with your tank!
Best wishes, Chelsey
