reddish slime

Question
I have a 40 gal tank set up a year ago with 15 fish mollies, platty, zebra, guppy, sword.

I keep getting an orange-red slime type stuff on the sand, fake plants, glass and rocks. I have tried taking the fish out, cleaning everything and replacing most of the water, but it comes back.

I am using a regular flourcent tank light, aquaclear 70 filter. I have not tested recently but when I do things are in the right range. I use a flake food packaged by Big Al's a major store in Toronto.

Also the fish seem to be dying for no reason, the live bearers more than the tetra family.

Picked you because of the your "whats this weird stuff" comment

Any ideas

Answer
Hi Howard;

Is the food you feed them a similar color to the slime you have been finding?
How long does it take the fish to eat all the food you give them?
How often do you feed the fish?
How often do you make water changes and vacuum the gravel?
How much water at a time is changed?

Let me know as soon as you can.....
