Question
I have two mixed chiclids and a small turtle in a 30gal tank. After a month or so they ate my first pleco that was only about 2'. Then I bought a bigger one hoping they wouldn't be able to kill it if it was bigger, and they killed it too. So then I was thinking I could probably use snails... But I read that my chiclids might eat the snails.
What should I do????

Answer
Hello Jenny,

You can always give them to someone else to deal with, if they're not the kind of fish that suit your needs.

Cichlids usually don't bother plecos.  I've never had mine bother them, however it really depends on what kind of cichlids you have.

Most cichlids are not snail-safe.

I assume, by "mixed" you mean that the cichlids are African Cichlids, from a mixed tank, where you chose the prettiest ones.  That means they are not just aggressive like most cichlids, but they are extremely aggressive.  They will need to be with fish of similar size, and who are of similar temperment, if you introduce anymore fish at all.

I certainly hope this helps.  Happy holidays and happy fish-keeping!
