mollie/platy behavior

Question
Hi Chelsey,

Yesterday I noticed that two of my adult fish, one mollie and one platy are displaying unusual behavior: they both are stationary very near the water surface.  The are not gulping air, nor do they show any signs of stress.  They also seem to be eating normally, taking food as it passes by.

Do you have any ideas about what might be going on.  This behavior now has lasted approximately 48 hours.

Thanks for your time and effort.

John

Answer
Hey John,
check your temperature. is it around 78-80 degrees? they could be trying to get warmth from the light. Are all of your fish doing this or just hose two? they might just like the surface, i have some fish that do that. If they stop eating or start doing anything else odd, they are most likely sick and need treatment.
they are probably okay if this is all they are doing, but hopefully they aren't sick.

keep looking for any thing else that might pop up.
good luck with your tank, I hope this helps you out a little.
best wishes, chelsey
