Beta has growth

Question
Thank you so much for responding. The growth is not white, it looks
something like the scales erupting. It's small, like a little horn. It looks a lot
like a skin-tag that we humans get; same color as his scales. Do fish molt?
Thanks again, Stephanie!

-----Question-----
My beta has a growth above and behind his eye. It almost looks like a horn.
It's
not bleeding. It isn't ick as we've had and conquered that. He doesn't rub
against
the glass, appetite and behavior are good. Should I worry about this? He's my
first fish ever and a total delight. I want to do right by him so anything your
can
offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello,

Depending on the size and shape of this growth it may or may not be
something bad. I have a fish who gets small white growths on his head every
so often that clear up on their own. However, if he begins to show other
symptoms or stops eating then it could be a fungus or parasite.

There are more types of parasites then ick. It could be a fish louse, but those
aren't very common. If it looks like a clear bug, then it is likely a fish louse. It
is best to remove these with tweezers very gently if you can.

If it is white, it could be a fungus (or as I mentioned above, just a normal
growth). If your fish starts to show other symptoms to indicate that it may be
a fungus, you should treat it with a product like Pimafix.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Stephanie

Answer
Hello,

Fish can lose scales. Just make sure that it does not look like an open wound, or like its bothering him. Either way you may want to add some Melafix (an antibacterial) to your aquarium to make sure there are no infections.
