Question
QUESTION: Hi it's me again, I might be getting another 10 gallon aquarium at my other house and I'm thinking about adding a school of cory cats, you know of any other schooling fish that would bring color to the tank and that would go good with the cory cats? And also, in addition to my last question regarding the cycling fish I could keep with the Tiger Barbs - Are the mollies Grouping fish? Should I get more after I see if the one gets along, and if so how many?
Thanks again

ANSWER: In reference to the 10 gallon:

Cory cats are awesome fish and they will be very nice in a school. However, since it is only a 10 gallon I would only advice getting 5 small ones or 3 large ones. Either way they will swim all over and seem like more fish than they are. Corys are considered bottom dwellers but in schools or 2 or more they go crazy and are very active, its really fun to watch. Also, try to stick to one type (albino or panda or green) as the different colors and patterns do not really like to school together as much as the same type does. For example, get all albino corys or all panda corys and not one panda, one albino, and one green, the same colors together will be best. On the other hand you can get three albino and three panda for example. Just make sure you have at least two of the same color. Other schooling fish would be fish like neons, danios, any tetras, or guppies would be great choices. All of these fish come in either brilliant colors or a wide variety.

In reference to the mollies:

Mollies are not really considered schooling fish but they will gather in the same area but again they are not really schooling fish. If you like mollies and the molly works out with the tigers, feel free to add some more. The molly does not need friends but if you like them it would be just fine to add some more. In reference to how many, I am not sure I have forgotten the size of the tank and all the occupants. If you wish to send me back the specs of the tank I would be glad to help you figure out how many mollies you could add. I hope this helps. Let me know if you need more help.

QUESTION: Hi, the tank that needs the Mollies for the cycling is a 10 gallon and it's going to have 6 tiger barbs, 4-5 kuhli loaches, MAYBE 1 dwarf gourami and the one cycling molly (maybe a lyretail if the tigers don't nip it, do you think the tigers would nip the lyretail molly?). And the 10 gallon that I'm going to put corys in, is 4 small corys, 6 neon tetras(should I have to worry about the neon tetra disease or is it not really common? Should i quarantine them?) and Maybe 1 dwarf gourami ok? Or should I leave out the dwarf Gourami?
Thanks!

ANSWER: The tiger tank:
I would not advice adding any more than one more molly to this tank as it is pretty full as it is, making a total of two mollies. You can try the lyretail, the tigers will not pick on the molly any more because of the tail. If the tigers do not like mollies they will pick on any kind, regardless of the tail shape.

The cory tank:
4 corys and 6 neons sounds great, as well as the gourami; however, be careful as the gourami may be picking on the neon due to their size. I would be absoultely sure you want to add the dwarf before you do because they may not go well with the neons. I would not be concerned about the tetra disease as it really only is a big deal to fish like angelfish. You could quarantine them but it would not really eliminate the risk. I would not be too concerned as it is really not that big of any issue. I hope this helps. Let me know if youhave any more questions.

QUESTION: Hi again =), I was just wondering, because the lyretail molly has a bigger tail then the normal Mollies wouldn't the tigers be more tempted to nip? And about platies - do they have the same chance at getting bullied by the tigers as the Mollies do? And if I were to get a platy instead of a molly, would I need a group of platies, or just one?

Answer
No, the mollies will be picked on if the tigers do not like them regardless of the tail. Chances are the mollies will be less likely to be picked on than the platys as the mollies are usually bigger and more outgoing. Both mollies and platys are not really schooling fish. While it does not hurt to have two or three of either, you do not have to have more than one. It all depends on your preference. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions or concerns.
