Question
I have a new betta fish and am new to keeping this kind of fish. My new fish was purchased four days ago and refuses to eat. It sucks the food in and then spits it back out. It is in water that feels like it is about 63 degrees and it has a under gravel filter and an aerator. I have just turned the aerator off today because it looks like it is wearing the fish out trying to swim in water that is always moving. I have tried freeze dried bloodworms, freeze dried baby shrimp (Gammarus, and Tetra brand Bettamin tropical medley flakes and he is not eating either one. Can you please help me and the little fishy?

Answer
Hi Thomas,

Congratulations on your new fish.  Betta require warm water to do well and 63 is definitely too cold.  You should invest in a heater  and get the water up to about 76F.

This could be the cause of the problem, or the fish could still be adjusting to the move to a new tank.
