Question
I was wondering how you can tell when your Mollie is about to give birth. And how long tell she might. Also some tip on some good small tropical freshwater fish for a 2 foot fish tank.
Thank-you
Jack Barrett

Answer
Hi Jack,
It can be difficult to tell because every fish is somewhat individual in their behaviors just before giving birth. The most common behavior mollies exhibit it a tendency to withdraw from the rest of the other fish and hang back in the corner or in a hiding spot. And again, individual fish vary, but most mollies are pregnant for about 4-6 weeks. Getting to know your own fish will help tremendously so you can better judge and predict when fry will be arriving soon!

There are many good tropical fish for a 2 foot long tank. These include most of the smaller tetras such as-
*Neons
*Black Neons
*Phantom Tetras
*Bloodfin tetras
*Glowlights
(ect...)

Barbs-
*Cherry barbs

*White clouds
*Pygmy corydoras
*Otocinclus catfish
*Dwarf gouramis
*Bettas (in a suitable community tank)
*Guppies
*Platies
*Kuhli loaches
Non fish critters like-
Ghost shrimp
Mystery snails
African Dwarf frogs

Just remember you can have a small community of little fish in a 2 foot tank, just be careful not to overstock and keep up with those once or twice weekly partial water changes to keep nitrates down and you'll do just fine!

I hope this helps!
Karen~
