Question
"I have slowly over the last 5 months or so put these fish together in my tank in order of which they were added: 1 Plecostomus(10 inches), 2 "semi aggressive??" tetras (4 inches), 1 Dwarf Gourami(6 inches),1 silvertip shark (8 inches), 2 bala sharks (7-8 inches), 1 glass fish (2-3 inches), 1 upside down catfish (3 inches), 1 redtail shark(6inches), 1 African cichlids(5 inches), puffer fish(1 inch long)...and now I can't find my ghost shrimp who was 4-5 inches(has been in tank for 2 months) not even a body or remains???did one of these possibly eat him?are these all compatible or will more turn up missing? If I were to get more fish what should i look at getting? I have 40 gallon tank. Also I have never seen my puffer fish blow up, I've even tried to get him to by catching him in the net and touching him, what's wrong with him? Puffer fish is white on bottom with olive green on top with lime green circles...Also what should I be feeding all of them? I've been feeding flakes, granuales, and freeze dried blood worms(is this all nessecary)."

Answer
Wow, so many things going wrong with your stocking, did you do any research at all? Ok, here we go

1) Plecos should not be kept in tanks under 125 gallons

2) Tetras should be kept in schools of 6 or more

3) Are you sure its a dwarf gourami, they rarely top 4"

4) Silvertip and bala sharks are the same, they should not be kept in tanks under 125 gallons and a trio would need 250 gallon. They get over a foot long.

5)Glass fish should be in schools of at least 6

6) Red tail sharks never top 4", are you sure it is a red tail?

7) African cichlids should not be kept with anything but other african cichlids

8)Puffer fish should not be kept with anything but other puffer fish

Most puffer fish keepers feed their puffers ghost shrimp as a supplement diet. They love them, its the same as giving them flakes, just more food.

You should also be feeding frozen brine shrimp. And blanched zucchini.
