pregnant platties

hello!
I bought some platties and then i discovered that two of them were pregnant the problem is that i don't know since when they are pregnant so i don't know when the birth is due I read that if they are moved to a breeding trap too soon they abord there pregnancy so i don't know when to move them into the breeding trap i have some plastic plants if i don't move them into the breeding trap will the fry be able to hide in these plants or they will all get eaten

Hi,
The best way to do this is to separate the pregnant females into another tank and add some floating plants for the babies to hide. Usually the female will have a "gravid spot" near her vent. This will tell you that she is due to give birth anytime soon. Feed the babies on crushed flake or baby brine shrimp.
