Question
Ok so I am new at owning fish. I got one to help keep me company now that I am in college and I love it. I started out with a basic betta starter kit, but bought a new one with a light hoping to raise the temperature some. It is a 1 gallon tank, I have been able to keep it at a constant 70 degrees. I've left the light on pretty much since I got it a couple weeks ago. He seems to be doing fine.
There is tons of conflicting information out there. Some sites are like no less than a 5 gallon tank and keep it at 78 degrees. Others are like they don't care if its small and 65-75 is good. Some say absolutely no other fish. Others say you can have one if its the right type.
So can you offer some clarity on this?

Answer
Betta fish are just happy in water... doesn't matter about the size just so that they can move around. I keep mine in ten gallon tanks with tetras and they seem happy there I have two I keep in small containers and they thrive and build bubble nests... bottom line is they are happy so long as they are taken care off... They like to be warm... 70-80 is good for them and he will want the light off at night... fish do not have eye lids so they need the dark to rest.  They also love live food... brine shrimp and tubi-worms... keep me posted if you should have other questions.... dave
