Betta Filter

Question
I recently bought a Tetra Brand internal Whisper Power Filter for my Betta, Bruce Lee =).  He resides in a 10 gallon tank by himself for now.  The filter is rated for 2 to 10 gallons.  He seemed to dart around when I first set it up, but after a while I found him hiding behind the filter.  A while later he was hiding in a broken clay pot that I have for him. I'm wondering if the filter makes too strong of a current or if he's just exploring.

As of now, he's back behind his filter just flapping his little dorsals away.

Is Bruce going to be alright?

Thank you Very much1

Answer
Hi Jim;

It's great to see a hobbyist keep a betta in a regular tank with a filter. It's so much better than those tiny little bowls or tanks. The strong flow is probably too much for him but he will probably adjust in the next few days. Bettas are typically raised in slow to completely still water so they have a hard time at first. To help the water slow down a bit, get more decorations, or live or artificial plants and group them around the filter outflow. It will break up the current and hopefully help Bruce feel more comfortable.
