Hello

My question is what is the largest tank an unsupported upstairs floor can handle safely?

I want to get a 125 long tank or is this a bad idea or should I go smaller with a 90 gallon?

You have to use your best judgement on this one. No one without seeing your floor would be able to correctly answer this question. If the floor has no support, I wouldn't put either upstairs. A 125 gallon will weigh 1400 lbs when filled with water and 90 gallon will weigh 1050 lbs when filled. These weights are just the aquarium and don't include the stand. I live in a fairly new house that was built very well and I don't have any of my larger aquariums upstairs.
