White fungus on stick

Question
I recently introduced a stick into my fish tank and now there is this white fungus growing on it. Is this fungus bad? permanent so long as the stick stays? Or is it just acclimating and will soon be gone?

Answer
Hi Tim

If this is a real stick, it needs to be removed from the tank. Real wood will rot when it gets wet and fall apart. The particles will kill your fish and damage your filter.

If it's driftwood that you bought at an aquarium store, this is likely just a mold or a fungus of some sort and can be cleaned using an aquarium scrubber.

Hope this helps you, good luck!
