Question
Hi Karen, my catfish laid eggs yesturday morning, I have about 110 eggs and nearly all of them are see through clear with tiny white shapes inside and no cloudyness. I have 2 bronze cat fish as well in the tank, that seem to be helping with the baby sitting. Would they be ok if I just left them in the tank ? and just see how things develop naturally. my only concern is the fluval pump which I have. at the moment its quite slow flowing as the filter needs a clean. which I will not do as once it's done it is very  powerful. do you have any solutions to keep the air flowing without haming any fry if the eggs hatch.
Thanks Antonia

Answer
Hi Antonia,
You can try leaving the eggs with the parents, but know there is always that chance some could get eaten. To help prevent danger from the pump's intake strainer I would take a square sponge (like one from the filter area of your petstore), cut a hole in the center, then slide it over it as a protective cover to prevent any babies from being sucked up the intake tube. This works fine and doesn't strain the filter, the sponge also has the extra added benefit of acting as a little mini-biofilter as the fibers harbor many beneficial bacteria.

Fertile eggs will look somewhat beige in color and should take about 3 days to hatch. When they hatch they will be insanely tiny and they should be fed "Liquifry" food or Microworms or Baby brine shrimp...As they grow, so can their food choices and the size.

Best wishes and best of luck!
Karen~
