Question
Hello, I have a 60 gallon semi-planted freshwater aquarium with the following inhabitatns: 1 bushy-nose pleco, 5 chinesse algae eaters, 5 golden harlequin rasboras, 2 dwarf puffers, 2 pearl gouramis, and 2 marble veil angels.  I just added 4 zebra danios and I dont think any of the other fish, with the exception of the rasboras, like them.  Even worse, it is very noticeable the the angelfish don't like them and I thought angels were supposed to be a very peaceful species.  Do you think that I should pull out the danios and maybe get something else or is this something that might go away with time?  Appreciate it.

Answer
Hi Walkman;

Angels are actually not a peaceful species at all. They can get pretty aggressive. They are in the cichlid family and like to eat small fish if they will fit in their mouth. I would give it a few days and maybe add some more plants or re-arrange the ones you have to distract the fish a bit. As the zebras grow they will be in much less danger of being eaten. Danios are often used as "dither fish". They school around the top portion of the tank and help the others feel more calm. It doesn't work if the irritated fish are breeding though. Are the angels spawning? That would explain their behavior too. Here is more about dither fish; http://www.theaquarians.net/ArticlesandWallpapers/dither_fish.htm

I hope things get better.....
