Question
Hey..
well a friend gave me i think a 90 or 100 gallon tank two days ago with huge rock {not live rocks} and fake plants and a filter. The tank was very dirty so i washed it off with hot water and a clean new rag also washed the rocks and plants with hot water and also the filter!
Well the problem is the tank was used as a salt water tank before but now that my friend gave it to me i want to use it as a fresh water tank. Can this be done ??
Will anything happen to the fish when i put them in ???
Will it cause any problems??

Answer
Hi Sammy

Wash the inside of the tank with vinegar and water and rinse very well. Let it dry for about 24 hours. When converting a saltwater tank to a freshwater tank you can have problems with hard, alkaline water which will be harmful and/or fatal to freshwater tropical fish. It's always best to replace the filter, all of the decorations, heater etc. All you would be able to safely use is the tank itself.

Hope this is helpful, good luck!
