alge

Question
I have a 55 gallon tank , tank has been set up for at least 15 years, water condition is good we have approx 15 fish, we have all plastic plants...Now for the last 6 months we have been getting alge all over the glass and plants I have 1 flouresent lamp that stays on all the time, do you think I am getting to much light, Tank is built into a wall and gets no outside light

Hi Chuck... tanks do not need more then 8-9 hours of light per day and since fish do not have eyelids... they need the dark to rest.  This has been a bad year for algae ... so I would start by reducing the amount of light the tank is getting to about 9 hours per day... What kind of bulbs are you using??? four bulbs seems excessive.... let me know.....dave
