Question
Hi Jaymie,
I have a 15 Gal. Aquarium with two mollies, five guppies and four danio zebra. No gravel at bottom and nothing but the fish in my tank. I have external canister filter with new Activated Carbon cartridge in it, I run filter as per my local pet shop owner's  guidance, I change 10% of water every day, I do siphoning, there is no smell coming from the water; but water looks yellow. Please help me to solve this problem.

Thank you,
Shails

Answer
Shails,

Sorry to hear to hear you are having problems. Did you cycle the tank for 2 weeks before you added the fish? As for the daily water changes it is not necessary. Test his water weekly and do weekly water changes of 25%. Is there a reason you chose not to add any gravel? Sometimes the fish enjoy it and they look for food in the gravel. If you are running a filter that is for the size tank you have doing the daily 10% water changes are most likely doing more harm then good. Let the good bacteria build up in the tank and this should stop the yellow cloudy water. If things don't change after the weekly water changes or they get worse let me know.
