Aquarium fleas

Question
My tank has had these flea like creatures at the top of the water line for years.  They jump and look like fleas.  They seem to stay in the tank - no fleas in my carpet. I wipe them out with paper towels each time I clean the tank. Any ideas of what they are and how to get rid of them?? I have only a 12 inch Oscar and 9 inch pleco in the tank, gravel, artificial plants.

We had an old lava rock years ago which has been removed 2 years ago. The Oscar gets an earthworm as a treat - wondering if flea like creatures were on worms???  Occasionally a live goldfish for the Oscar.

Answer
Kathy,
they may well be daphnia (water flea)without seeing a pic of one
that would be my guess...nothing to worry about at this point.
would be great food for any small fish but not so much for a 12 oscar!...
if you can get me a pic I can help you further....if you are looking to get rid of them wiping them away over time will get rid of them...they may well be on your filter media as well...could also be a freshwater shrimp of some sort as well nothing to worry about there, they help keep tank clean of minute debris.....Merry Christmas, enjoy your tank...
