Unknown fish @ friends store

Question
My friend has a cichlid looking fish at his store - he got it in a shipment of coreys.  it is about 2-3 inches long and gold flecked - it has an oscar shaped body with a small taper starting at the anus - it has a black spot on the gill opening on either side of the head & what looks like a black spot starting to show on the fleshy part right in front of the tail fin.  ANY clues what it is?

  Hmmm..  that is really hard to day without a picture.  It could be a cichlid but it could be any of a thousand other fish as well.  Did it come directly from the wild or did the shipment come from a fish farm?  If you could send me a picture, to rcoleman@cichlidresearch.com  I would have a much better chance of saying what the fish is.
