distilled water in new tank

Question
I bought a new tank yesterday and set it up cuz the old one was getting really hard to clean and not coming very clean.  Our water here is very hard so i figured i would get less buildup using distilled water.  Now I read that this can be bad for my fish.  I already have my fish in the new tank and don't want them to be harmed.  What can I do?

Thanks,
Matt

Answer
Hi Matt,
The reason why distilled water is bad for your fish is because it lacks the minerals naturally occurring in water than your fish NEED. So from now on, use tap water with de-chlorinator. For the moment, you can add aquarium salt to put some electrolytes back into the water and reduce the stress on your fish.
Do a 25% water change at least every three days and put back in fresh, clean, de-chlorinated tap water. Your fish should be fine.
