Betta dieing?

Question
Alright so i got a small tank with 2 betta fish seperated of course and i have a "whisper" filter in it.  Between teh bottom of the filter is a bit of space until the rocks and apparently my betta got caught under the filter and couldnt get out till i realized that he was under there and i moved the filter and got him out.  The betta that got stuck has always been so lively  and energetic, which is why i think he survived the accident.

Anyways he has a pretty big gouge on the side of him and it looks like his scales were torn off and some of his insides were kind of tore out.  It been about 2 days and I have had the little guy for about a year, he eats but only a little bit and he just kind of sits behind the filter not making any sudden movements.

My question is, is there anything I can do?

Answer
Hi Bret;

Ouch, poor little guy!

Just keep his water clean, get it as warm as possible and maybe use some aquarium salt and Melafix to help him heal. The salt dosage is 1/2 teaspoon per gallon and follow the directions on the melafix bottle. The temperature can be up to 85 degrees. At least 80 is best.

Also give him something that floats to rest on at the top of the tank. Maybe a floating plant (plastic or live). Resting on something like that will help him conserve energy by helping him not have to struggle so hard to stay at the top for gulps of air.

I hope he gets better soon....
